On November 23, 2020, QARAMA (Union of Human Dignity) and the Lebanese ISF (Internal Security Forces) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to put into action a new program of legal, moral, and psychological support for juvenile inmates in Lebanese prisons and jails. The understanding will create a close working partnership between the ISF and QARAMA in cooperation with teams of professionals who all have the end goal of providing better humanitarian, legal, psychological environment for the young prisoner and detainees. Ultimately, helping them prepare for the possibility of successful rehabilitation back into society.
The program will include regular health check in prisons to detect for infectious or prevalent diseases, physical or mental, as well as providing the proper treatment in coordination with the prison’s medical center. There is also consideration of a human support program to evaluate the living conditions, especially for those with disabilities. On the legal front, this memorandum will allow QARAMA to provide the legal support and representation prisoners and detainees need.
This project will help QARAMA target a highly discriminated and young individuals that are heavily neglected, unprotected, and abused. Creating these changes is directly In line with the organizations mission of helping vulnerable Lebanese groups regain their dignity and empowering them to make a change.
